The parish church since the 15th Century, for many years it was under the patronage of the Orber of Malta which mainteined the right to appoint the rector until the 19th Century.
It was destroyed during the famous battle of 1544 between French and Imperials troops.
Only the 15th Century bell tower survived and it is still standing today; in those days it stood in its own cemetery.
The church wad destroyed again by the France in 1709, and rebuilt in its current Baroque from between 1715 and 1723.
The interior has a single nave which opens into ten side chapels and is richly decorated.
The ceiling is completely covered with geometrical patterns and ornaments.
